Do you offer only one wallbed mechanism?

No, The Great American Wallbed Co. offers two (2) mechanisms.  Our most popular is the platform type.  This mechanism incorporates the mechanism and the decorative face panels into a single spring operated unit.  This mechanism mounts to the bed cabinet. This can be mounted Horizontally or Vertically.

Our other mechanism is either floor or wall mounted and is free standing.  The cabinet which encloses the mechanism utilizes bi-fold doors.  This free standing mechanism is standard in our Pivoting Library Bed series. It is called the NEXT Bed.

What are your cabinets made of?

We have three different materials that we use. The flat panel series is available in Melamine, (see Color Chart) solid and wood grains as well as Unfinished Wood Veneers. Melamine is a second generation "Formica" or plastic coating product. It is made of wood composite board that is then heat processed with a color coating. We use the finest 0.75" furniture quality board. Unfinished wood veneers are available in Oak, Cherry or Maple. Veneers are thin slices of wood which are applied to composition board, we use 7-ply wood veneer, 0.75". Our thermofoil raised panel series is a heat applied, vinyl coating over MDF board. Our wood raised panel doors are made of solid wood and are available in Oak, Cherry and Maple.

Modern manufacturing practices have improved greatly and there are little or NO measurable VOC's in the products we use.  The particle board is a dense Furniture Grade product that is made from wood leftover from the lumber milling process.  They are certified Green products and hold up very well.  The Thermofoil and melamine finishes clean up easily with mild soap and water.
